Networking Activity

The Games

The Games is a team activity, suitable for all ages and abilities, which incorporates comradery, collaboration, fun, friendly competition, exploring new skills and networking. Explore all the attributes required by Olympic athletes to win gold while working from home: mental endurance, time management, strategy, team communication, focus and physical ability.

Using the online conference platform, this 90 min session is divided into six sections:

  • Intro & Energiser: The activity kicks off with a welcome and an Olympic themed energiser from our quirky host. Teams are then introduced to the objectives of The Games and the scoring.

  • Challenge 1: Cognition. A great way to get everyone warmed up and settled into how the game will run. We explore the world of Trivia with a fun ‘gameshow’ style round.
  • Challenge 2: Strategy. Decipher clues under the pressure of the clock. To win points together for this round, players must gain an understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
  • Challenge 3: Collaboration. In the style of an Olympic relay, create a unique Chain Reaction with your team.

  • Challenges 4: Dexterity. Like any major athlete, players practise attention to detail and patience in this origami challenge.
  • Challenge 5: Agility. No Olympic Games are complete without a little physical flair! A great, fun, energy boosting way to finish the activity with our Rhythmic Gymnastics or team balance challenge.

Individual winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the end of the event.

Computer Labs

Frank Byl

Frank Byl

Certified Microsoft Master Instructor

Frank has helped thousands of clients to hone their computer skills. He has previously taught OneNote as well as Excel classes at previous BCFHPS Conferences. Network with other professionals and learn tricks to maximize your and your employer's productivity + systems.

NOTE ABOUT CONNECTING REMOTELY: Participants should have two monitors or two devices, so that they can watch on one screen and practice on the second screen. The second device must be a tablet or another computer, a phone will not be sufficient. A link to download any required files will be provided prior to the workshop and at the start of the workshop.

RECORDING OF WORKSHOP: We will record the presentation and allow the video to be accessed via the conference website for six weeks after the conference for those who wish to review the presentation or for members that were not able to attend the workshop.

Join Frank in these computer lab sessions:

Computer Lab 1d: Excel Functions and Data Collection

Sept 11, 1pm - 2:45pm

Key skills for building advanced (multi-argument) functions, using name ranges, understanding, and using new spill functions and key principles for data collection. This will be an updated version of the Excel Top Ten Functions that was done in the past with greater emphasis on some of the thirty new functions and features added to Excel in the last year.

Computer Lab 1e: OneNote

Sept 11, 1 - 2:45pm

This tool that is provided in the Office 365 suite is poorly understood and utilized and has great potential to streamline administrative tasks, information gathering and especially for the operation of teams that meet on routine basis. Participants will be encouraged to work in groups of two or three. Instructions and a video will be provided prior to the workshop so that participants can create OneNote files that can be shared with peers prior to the OneNote workshop so that they can experience the collaborative capabilities of OneNote. If they do not connect with peers prior to the workshop, they will be able to easily join the workshop on their own and work on their own. This workshop will provide an alternative to the Excel training series for staff that would like computer training in something other than Excel, as per their job and skill requirements.

Computer Lab 2d: Power Query

Sept 11, 3:15pm - 5pm

Excel’s Power Query tools allow for automated uploading of data from multiple sources and types. We will work with real (sanitized) data in various forms including PDF, Text files, CSV, and Excel formats to show how data can be automatically uploaded, converted, and organized into useful Excel tables. Further to creating the original query participants will learn how to append and remove data using the same queries. Power Query will be utilizing some of the skills and functions taught in the first session.

Computer Lab 1d & 2d: Power Pivot

Sept 12, Part 1 10:30 - 11:30am, Part 2: 11:45 - 12:45pm - you must register for both parts

Many times, data is not provided in a single table but is in multiple tables that are related. Perhaps a table of Physician Info, Client Info, and Service Info. While related each table contains unique information. Power Pivot allows users to connect those tables and create meaningful reports and even charts. This workshop will provide data sets to be used in the workshop.
